Everyone has experienced anger at one time or another.  It is a natural, healthy emotion that results when a person perceives that he is being attacked or criticized or that things are not happening the way that he would prefer.  However, when a person becomes unable to control his anger or projects his anger onto undeserving victims, problems will occur.

Anger management includes techniques to reduce the amount of anger a person feels as well as techniques to express anger in alternate ways.  It can teach one to become assertive rather than aggressive, and to communicate emotions calmly rather than express them through rage.

It is important to continue to express one's emotions, because anger turned inwards will have harmful physical and psychological effects, but there are more effective ways to express anger.  Techniques to alleviate feelings of anger include relaxation, exercise, humor, and keeping a journal or other expressions of creativity.
